Hi, I am Amy, and this tiny wreath ornament might be the prettiest little thing on your tree this year. Delicate scalloped petals, a ring of bumpy green puff stitches, a tiny white bow, and a few pearl beads, all built around a little 4 cm metal ring.

Because it starts by crocheting directly around the ring, the ornament stays compact and neat, while the outer petals make it look full and fancy. It works up quickly once your ring is covered, which makes it a lovely last-minute gift or tree-trimming party project.

The original uses pink petals for a soft festive look, but red petals are beautifully traditional and white petals look like fresh snow. Pick your favourite and let us begin!

Materials

  • Cotton or acrylic crochet yarn in white, green, and pink or red
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook
  • Metal ring, approximately 4 cm in diameter
  • Pearl beads for embellishment
  • Hot glue gun
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Lighter, for neatly securing yarn ends

Abbreviations

  • CH: chain
  • SL ST: slip stitch
  • SC: single crochet
  • HDC: half double crochet
  • DC: double crochet
  • PUFF ST: puff stitch
  • ST(S): stitch(es)
  • RND: round

Special Stitches

  • Puff stitch: yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch and draw up a loop, repeat this twice more in the same stitch so you have 7 loops on the hook, then yarn over and pull through all 7 loops

Gauge & Size

  • Built around a metal ring approximately 4 cm in diameter
  • Round 1 must cover the ring completely with 52 SC
  • Finished ornament is a small tree decoration with a 30-chain hanging loop

Wreath Pattern

Round 1: Attach white yarn to the 4 cm metal ring with a slip knot. Work 52 SC tightly around the ring, making sure the metal is completely covered. SL ST into the first SC to join, CH 1, fasten off, and secure the yarn end.

Checkpoint: Run your finger around the ring and look for any exposed metal before you change colours; the white stitches should form one continuous covering.

Round 2: Attach green yarn to the top of the white stitches. Work (1 puff stitch, skip 1 SC) around the entire circle, for a total of 26 puff stitches. SL ST into the first puff stitch to join, CH 1, fasten off, and secure the yarn end. (26 puff sts)

Round 3: Attach pink or red yarn at the top space of the round. In the designated stitch space, work CH 1, 1 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, then 2 DC in the next space, then 1 DC, 1 HDC, 1 SC to complete one petal. Skip 1 stitch and repeat the petal sequence around the wreath, for a total of 13 finished petals. SL ST into the first SC to join, CH 1, fasten off, and trim the yarn ends. (13 petals)

Hanging loop: From the final joining point, CH 30 to form the hanging loop. Secure it with a SL ST back into the base, CH 1, fasten off, and finish the yarn ends neatly.

Finishing & Assembly

Make a small decorative bow using white yarn, leaving two dangling strands. Thread pearl beads onto the strands for a delicate beaded accent.

Using the hot glue gun, carefully attach the bow and its beaded strands to the top front centre of the wreath. Let the glue set before lifting the ornament.

Weave in any remaining loose ends and trim away the excess. Final check: the metal ring is completely covered, the green round shows 26 puff stitches, the outer edge has 13 petals, and the 30-chain loop is firmly attached.

Tips

Count your puff stitches before fastening off Round 2; if the last puff lands in the wrong place, check your skipped stitches instead of stretching the section into position.

Count petals as you go in Round 3, because the 13-petal count is the easiest way to catch a missed skip early.

Hold the wreath by its new chain loop before trimming the end, just to be sure the loop sits securely without pulling the petals out of shape.
