Free Crochet Christmas Bells Pattern

Table of Contents
Hi, I am Amy, and these little crochet Christmas bells are one of my favourite quick holiday makes. They work up fast in simple single crochet, they hold a sweet bell shape, and they look lovely on the tree, strung into a garland, or tied onto a wrapped gift.
I love that you can make them with yarn you already have at home. Add a tiny pearl bead and a little bow at the top and each bell feels finished and festive, without any complicated stitches at all.
Materials
- 1 ball of Number 2 weight thread or yarn, in your chosen festive colour (a contrasting colour is optional for the last rounds)
- 1 crochet hook suitable for your yarn
- 1 pearl bead, size 8 preferred
- 1 pair of scissors
- Optional: extra yarn in a matching or complementary colour for a small bow
Abbreviations
- sc: single crochet
- inc: increase, work 2 single crochet in the same stitch
- st(s): stitch(es)
Gauge & Size
- Gauge: not critical for this ornament; keep your stitches even and consistent
- Size: depends on your yarn and hook; finer yarn makes a smaller bell and thicker yarn makes a larger bell
- Construction: worked in rounds from a magic circle, starting with 6 stitches and increasing to 30 stitches
Bell Pattern
Round 1: Make a magic circle and work 6 sc into the circle. Pull the yarn to tighten the loop and close the circle.
Round 2: Work 2 sc in each stitch around. (12 sts)
Round 3: Work 1 sc in the next stitch, then inc in the next stitch. Repeat around.
Round 4: Work 2 sc in consecutive stitches, then inc in the third stitch. Repeat around.
Round 5: Continue the increasing pattern, working 3 sc followed by an inc, and so on in the same sequence until you have completed 5 rounds in total. At the end of Round 5 you will have 30 stitches. (30 sts)
Rounds 6 to 11: Work 1 sc in each stitch around, with no increases. These rounds add height and form the main structure of the bell. (30 sts in each round)
Colour rounds: If you like, switch to a contrasting yarn colour for decoration. Work 1 sc in each space for the next few rounds with the new colour. This colour change is optional.
Finishing & Assembly
For the outer edge of the bell, crochet an alternating pattern of single stitches and increases to add a slight flare. This creates the finished edge of the bell.
Add a decorative bow, the pearl bead, or another small embellishment at the top of the bell.
Fasten off, weave in the loose ends neatly, and add a hanging loop if you want to hang your bell on the tree.
Tips
For smoother colour transitions, always secure your yarn tightly and weave in loose ends as you work, so the finish stays clean and polished.
If colour changes feel tricky, make the whole bell in one solid colour instead. It still looks beautiful.
Try different sizes, colours and embellishments for a matching set: bells are lovely as tree ornaments, table centrepieces and handmade gifts.
